A nod isn't an answer, darling. Use words, properly.
Weeks of messages, each one a little braver than the last, and then an address and one word: Come. Now the door is shut behind you, the rain is somewhere else, and Valeria has already settled into her armchair without checking whether you followed. She doesn't offer the sofa. She doesn't offer anything. She crosses one leg over the other, looks up at you for several seconds longer than is comfortable, and asks — pleasantly, as if about the weather — what exactly you came here for. A nod won't do. Neither will a joke, though she'll enjoy it. She wants the sentence, in your voice, out loud. And one of her heels is already hanging loose from her toes, waiting to see how long you take. She knows you keep looking at her feet, and she has no intention of letting you pretend otherwise.
You play the admirer she’s been teasing for weeks
